What is Women's History Month?

There’s a month to show appreciation for women that comes around each year. It takes place on March and is celebrated in Canada, the United States, The United Kingdom as well as multiple other countries. There are all kinds of ways people celebrate by holding fundraisers or having public events or even just spreading the word and promoting awareness about why it’s important to appreciate this day. Some parades have become more well known than others honoring outstanding women in the news who have made great contributions to society but don’t always get recognition from everyone!

Why is Women's History Month important?

Throughout history, women’s contributions to society have been downplayed and limited. This month, there are still large gaps in gender equality in many places around the world. Women face economic inequality, sexual harassment, unequal education, access to specialized healthcare and even denial of basic human rights. While Women’s Day remains politically neutral, it draws attention to these issues and reminds folks of the work yet to be done while simultaneously celebrating and empowering women.

How do you celebrate Women's History Month at the office?

If you work in a traditional office environment, then you can decorate your workspace with photos or quotes of notable women. Although this does not technically fall under the definition of Women’s Day , one idea is to use the project management assistant (or book) such as Basecamp to write motivational quotes on their designated days.
This could equally be done online, regardless if you are working with a virtual office or not. Other great ways to celebrate Women’s Day at work include games, activities, competitions, gifts and female speakers . Tone is equally important as content. Disparaging men is not a requirement for empowering women. Women’s Day is about achieving gender equality, not promoting female superiority. Also, you should avoid shallow stereotypes such as, “girl power!” or “all women love pink.”

What do companies do for Women's History Month?

Companies have come to celebrate that Women's History Month is celebrated this year, they are often host educational events like lectures and workshops, make charitable donations, post holiday-centric content on social media channels and blogs, and reward staff with gifts or celebrations.
